Good day Creatures and welcome to our Artist Spotlight feature. Every Thursday we will highlight a new creative talent, introduce their work and tell you a bit about them.

Today we would like to introduce the wonderfully colourful and intriguing world of upcoming freelance illustrator, Kim Roberts.

Kim graduated from Teeside Uni with a BA in computer games design, having worked with a couple of games design companies she has now moved to London to make her way as a freelance illustrator.

Kim has kindly created some images especially for this article. The illustrations are humorous, colourful and refreshing. They are happy illustrations, that clearly come from the heart. We have never met Kim but we imagine that she is like a little balloon, filled to the brim with creative ideas and just about ready to burst with colour and lines.

Kim specialises in Children’s book illustration and we can see why, her style is clean, uplifting and colourful, she enjoys depicting humorous scenarios with weird and wacky creatures that ooze character. Kim is a versatile illustrator adopting many different styles throughout her career so far. Veering from dark manga influenced scenes to light and happy character designs, venturing into comic strips, graphic and clothing design, all of which can be seen through her portfolio of work at: www.kimsbrainjunk.co.uk.

We love the sketchy nature of the illustrations, it’s almost like she had to rush to get the ideas down on to paper, before her mind moves swiftly onto the next idea. The concepts are strong and the lines seem to come easy and naturally to Kim, the application of colour is striking and works really well in bringing the characters to life.

Variety is the spice of life and Kim’s images are certainly a refreshing break from the sinister art of Chris Getliffe, away from the freaks, strange balloons and darkened labyrinths that have appeared within our pages recently and into the wonderfully uplifting, experimental, rich and colourful world of Kim’s Brain Junk.

Kim is currently working on  a range of projects including illustrations for a children’s book. You can keep right up-to-date with Kim’s Brain junk, she publishes new junk on her blog as and when it is thrown forth from her mind.
