Battle of Drepana is the sea Battle between Roman Republic with the fleets of Carthage around 249 BC.
After several victories The Roman listed the Carthaginian Stronghold Lilybaeum as they next target. A strategy was made by Claudius Pulcher as the roman navy commanders to took the Drepana Harbor first by surprise morning attack.
The morning Before battle begin the Roman seek an omen by feed their Sacred chicken on board. it’s been their belief if the Sacred chicken accepted the grain it will be a good omen, because the Gods will fully supported through the battle.
Unexpectedly the Sacred Chickens refuse to eat the grain, in the way to calm the terrifying crews, Pulcher make his own interpretations about it and threw the sacred chicken overboard. The battle results was Roman defeat with almost their ships sunk.
