Who are you?
Hi there, my name is Stina and I’m a graphic designer and illustrator from the West Midlands, UK.

What do you do?
I’m a freelance illustrator and serial doodler – drawing quirky characters and monsters and generally being a big kid with a pen. I also head up my own little design agency called, Creative Elements.

Why do you do it?
I need to be creative like I need food – I can’t be without it!

Who are your influences?
My god-father used to work as an illustrator, so he played a big role in influencing my need to draw on every piece of paper I could get my hands on as a kid. I used to sit and copy his illustrations onto scrap paper which helped me teach myself how to draw.

I have a soft spot for surrealism and street art, but cartoons and animation is probably where my main influences come from. I used to watch a lot of Anime as a teenager, which was a big influence on my work when I was a student.  Anything by Pixar, Jamie Hewlette or Genndy Tartakovsky usually gets my vote too.

What inspires your work?
So many things – animation and video games inspired my work a lot while I was learning – but now it’s everything from people and culture, to music and folklore.

More often than not, the most unusual characters I’ve designed have been inspired by ordinary doodles, where I’ve just sat and mindlessly scribbled shapes and lines onto a page until I have enough interesting elements to manipulate and piece together.

What do you like?
Apart from the obvious; friends, family and good times – I love all things creative. When I’m not working in my design business or on commissions, I’m immersing myself in the arts and enjoying everything it offers life.

What don’t you like?
Long queues, transport delays and stilton cheese.
